Experience Into the Future | ||||
The
primary concept behind my educational model is the notion of authentic
experiences. As a teacher, I attempt to give students the impression
and/or experience of doing the subject, rather than simply reading about
the subject. As a psychology teacher, it has been my goal to treat
the students as though they are practicing psychologists. Moreover,
I have attempted to give them real tools that they can take out into their
lives and use with other people. Assessment is something that should be done creatively in an attempt to simultaneously educate the students and give them (and the teacher) a sense of what both the individual learner and the class have accomplished. I feel it is also imperative to provide students with as much diversity in assessment as one would provide in lesson planning. After all, not all students remember information in the same context or fashion. Management in my classroom is acted on in a preventative sense rather than a reactionary one. From the beginning I feel it is important to design a classroom setting with firm expectations, while giving students enough room to relax and express their developing personalities. |
